Munir Jawed - AnalystMr. Jawed joined Sentinel in August of 2009. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Fulbright scholar in Azerbaijan, where he conducted archival and field research on the history of oil production and democracy. Mr. Jawed also explored present-day energy security issues in the Caspian region. While in Azerbaijan, he wrote for local and international press, conducted seminars on security issues, and was very active in efforts to engage in dialogue with the Foreign Ministry on areas of mutual engagement between Azerbaijan and the United States. Before embarking for Azerbaijan, Mr. Jawed was chosen as one of forty Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Scholars in the country. His homeland security research covered topics such as legal and practical barriers to international commercial aviation security and an in-depth analysis of terrorist activities on board commercial aircraft from 1960 to 2001. He also examined methods for improving airport perimeter security and presented his recommendations to airport security officials in the U.S. In the summer of 2007, Mr. Jawed worked at the DHS Science and Technology Directorate's International Liaison Office. During that time, Mr. Jawed participated in creating a framework for a counterterrorism industrial policy, emphasizing U.S. energy security and our various approaches to security in high-risk oil-exporting countries. Mr. Jawed graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service with a Bachelor of Science in International Politics. He speaks Russian, Spanish, Italian and Arabic.
