Practice Groups and Services

Practice Groups

The firm has established several practice groups to support both its private and public sector clients. Members and employees of the firm may participate in several practice groups, and the firm often draws on the expertise of multiple practice groups when working on projects with broader scopes. The firm's practice groups are organized around its core areas of expertise:

Risk Assessment and Intelligence

This practice group assists private and public sector clients with the design and development of effective automated risk-assessment systems that use electronic data, intelligence, and technology to identify high-risk shipments and travelers. The members of this practice group also work with clients to develop tools for analyzing and disseminating information and intelligence to support a wide-range of homeland security functions.

WCO SAFE Framework and Smart Borders

The members of this practice group, along with Sentinel's business partners in certain cases, assist various public sector clients with the design of policies, programs, and systems needed to implement the World Customs Organization (WCO) SAFE Framework. This practice group also works with a variety of clients to develop smart border programs and technologies (particularly customs programs) that increase security and facilitate lawful trade and travel.

Border Control

This practice group works with various clients to design, develop, and implement strategies, concepts of operations ("CONOPS"), and technical solutions for controlling and securing borders between authorized entry points. The members of this practice group also work with various clients to develop immigration control solutions for the full-range of illegal immigration challenges, such as: criminal alien removal; visa and visa waiver overstay identification; and interior enforcement.

Transportation Security

This practice group assists clients on a wide-array of transportation security matters, with a primary focus on the development and implementation of aviation security strategies, policies, and operations (supported by technical solutions). In this regard, the firm has unique expertise with respect to passenger screening techniques, including passenger questioning techniques as well as the policies, technologies, and operations needed to perform watchlist checks. The firm also has unique expertise with respect to developing policies, programs, and operations (aided by certain technologies) to secure air cargo.

Organizational Design, Business Process Reengineering, and Change Management

This practice group advises public sector clients, such as the UK Home Office, regarding organizational design, business process reengineering, and transition and change management. The members of the firm have unique experience in this area. They have overseen the transition and merger that created U.S. Customs and Border Protection, assisted with several other organizational design and change management projects in the U.S., and advised the UK Home Office on the design of, and transition to, the new UK Border Agency.

Traveler Management

This practice group works with public and private sector clients to design, develop, and implement strategies, CONOPS, and technical solutions (e.g., risk assessments, watchlist checks, and biometric applications) for identifying high-risk (and low-risk) travelers at each stage of the international travel cycle. As such, it is the people-focused counterpart to the WCO SAFE Framework and Smart Borders practice group.

Services

The firm provides a wide range of strategic consulting services to private and public sector clients in the U.S. and abroad.
